Reclaiming Fatherhood, One Story at a Time
With My Man, My Man, My Man

Hey Collective,
The first two episodes of our Reclaiming Fatherhood series with Bo have been deeply personal for me.
Not just because Bo is my husband.
Or because we’ve been married for 18 years.
And not because we have built a blended family together.
But because I have had the privilege of watching him become the kind of father, stepfather, and grandfather that every child deserves to have.
In Part One, we talked about Black fatherhood, absence, presence, accountability, healing, and legacy. Bo shared pieces of his own story and what it meant to grow up without his father present, how that absence shaped him, and how other men helped fill in some of those spaces along the way.
In Part Two, we moved deeper into the reality of blended families. We talked about what it means to step into a family where children are already here, how trust is built over time, and the truth that love is not always instant. Sometimes it is chosen, practiced, tested, and proven.
And when I think about Bo, that is what I see.
A man who chose presence.
A man who helped raise children he did not biologically create and never treated them as less than.
A man who fought to be present for his own children.
A man who has grown, softened, adjusted, learned, and continued to show up.
A man who is now a present grandfather.
I am deeply grateful for who Bo is as a father. I am proud of his journey. I am proud of the relationships he has with our children and our grandchildren. And honestly, one of my greatest joys is watching him interact with the older boys.
It is like being inside a barbershop sometimes with jokes flying, stories being exaggerated, everybody teasing somebody, and laughter filling the room. There is something sacred about seeing grown sons still find comfort, humor, and connection with their father.
And now our family is growing again.
Our middle son recently shared that he and his wife are expecting their first child in spring 2027. The boys are already planning what they are calling a “baby moon,” and my heart has been so full watching them celebrate this next chapter together.
This is our legacy.
Not the polished or perfect kind.
The real kind.
The kind built through long conversations, complicated seasons, blended families, second chances, court battles, road trips, correction, laughter, prayer, presence, lots of tears, and love.
So much love.
That is why this series matters to me.
Because fatherhood is not just about biology. It is not just about provision. It is not just about who was there at the beginning.
Sometimes fatherhood is about who stayed.
Who showed up.
Who kept choosing the family.
Who learned how to love better over time.
Who became the covering they once needed.
If you have not watched the first two parts yet, I hope you’ll sit with them — especially if fatherhood, blended family, or healing has shaped your own story.
I hope these episodes make room for honest conversation in your own families. Maybe they remind you of a father who was present. Maybe they help you process one who was absent. Maybe they help you honor a stepfather, grandfather, uncle, coach, pastor, or mentor who helped fill the gap.
And maybe they remind us that healing does not always happen all at once.
Sometimes it happens around the same table.
With love,
Deneen
